Try to create a banner that moves the viewer's eye naturally from the profile picture on the left to your banner's most important elements on the right.
Your profile picture will overlay on the left side, which will obscure about 25 percent of any design elements in that area on your banner. However, be sure you keep all of your important design elements, messages, or icons on the right side of your image. This is a good way to invite users to get to know you and the type of content you share. The banner is much larger, so you have room to tell a bigger narrative story. Since the profile picture is much smaller, it's typically just an image of your face or a simple and recognizable photo. This approach allows your profile picture to send one message while your banner sends another, essentially creating two images in one. Twitter overlays your profile photo on your banner image.
